Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our studio.

We usually accept students who are 5 years and older, though occasionally younger children are accepted if they show readiness and interest. While students can start at different ages, 5–7 is an ideal range because children at this age typically have the focus, coordination, and attention span to benefit most from lessons. Younger students may still thrive with shorter, highly engaging lessons tailored to their abilities.

Miss Julia always says: “Parents make 80% of the progress, and the teacher 20%.” The teacher only instructs your child for 30–60 minutes per week, while parents' guide and encourage practice every day. Lessons give parents the tools and strategies to support their child’s progress at home, so a consistent routine and active involvement are essential. Your encouragement, guidance, and enthusiasm make a huge difference in your child’s growth as a musician.

Students are not just encouraged but expected to practice 5 days a week. It is important that practice becomes a routine from early on, that way the child naturally sits down at the piano to practice, just like brushing their teeth after dinner. We recommend choosing a specific time each day dedicated to practice (for example, right after dinner). Keeping the time consistent helps the child build a habit that sticks. Consistency is key. It is better to practice every day 5 min than one hour before lessons. How long practice is highly depends on each individual's needs and level. Generally, this is the usual practice time:

  • Beginner: 5-10 min each day
  • Intermediate: 20 min each day
  • Advanced/ Accelerated Program: 45+min each day

Once, again CONSISTENCY IS KEY

We understand that families are busy and that most days don’t allow an hour of hands-on supervision. That’s why short but consistent daily practice sessions are both realistic and highly effective.

Absolutely, it is necessary for practice. However, it does not necessarily have to be a fancy instrument, any piano with full-sized, weighted keys works great.

Things to consider when purchasing an instrument (recommended):

  • full size 88 keys
  • weighted keys
  • electric/ acoustic
  • pedal: even an electric keyboard can have pedal attachment which will be essential for intermediate/advanced player

If you have questions about an instrument, the teacher is more than happy to assist.
